The Hamilton Police are now able to share more details about Operation Angelo, which is the ongoing investigation into the murder of John Isaac, whose body was discovered in the Waikato River on Thursday, January 18.
Police have confirmed that Mr. Isaac, aged 53, appears to have been the victim of a violent assault that afternoon, prior to his body being discovered in the river by a passerby on a boat around 6:30pm.
Police still trying to establish Mr. Isaac’s activities leading up to his death and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or interacted with him in the days before last Thursday. He was last spotted around 3pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, wearing black cargo pants and a green t-shirt with a gasmask print, while shopping on Avalon Drive, Nawton.
Their investigation is primarily focused on the Waikato River and its surrounding areas, and the public can anticipate an ongoing police presence in the area as our enquiries continue.
Mr. Isaac was a son, a father, a grandfather, and a cherished friend. His death has profoundly impacted his family, who are currently receiving support from the NZ Police and Victim Support.
Police believe that someone out there knows who is responsible for this crime and what exactly transpired. We strongly encourage them to step forward and share what they know with the police.
