Mayor wants to execute pet dogs with his rifle

Waikato district Mayor Alan Sanson on a live zoom call expressed his desire to execute pet dogs that aren’t pure bred he describes as mongrels.

Sanson is attempting to put through a new proposed dog controlled by law that will place heavy restrictions on dog ownership. One of the proposals as limiting dog ownership to two dogs per property and it would require the owner to get a permit for a third dog. The permit would require permission from the homeowners next door neighbours.

The proposed dog controlled by law would prohibit dog owners taking their pets into the CBD even on a leash. Banning pet owners from Café’s when many patrons sit outside with their small dogs.

Sanson’s plea to the council was loaded with dog whistle politics by targeting a predominantly Maori populated community on Harris street in Huntly to execute their pets while making an exemption for farmers dogs.

Some conditions of the bylaw have been kept from the public and the policy could possibly be adjusted without public consultation.

Cox feels many rate payers have been through enough this year with lockdowns and financial pressures that this is going to far and over reaching.

  1. From his comments, is Alan Sanson driving around in his vehicle with a gun and ammunition, and if so, why is he allowed to do so. This is not a safe practice. His gun licence needs to be reconfirmed, if he has a gun licence of course. His comments were not appropriate for a person in his position and he should resign. He is not in control and is a dictator. Not fit to be Mayor of Waikato District Council.

  2. This guy is not right in the head. I wonder if he tortured and killed animals as a child. He has all of the red flags present in a sociopath to be fair. It’s typical of them to make it into positions of power and authority for a start.

He clearly doesn’t like dogs. Who is he to decide a mixed breed from a pure breed in this age of Labradoodles and Maltiepoos? Who is he to tell cafe owners their patrons can’t bring their dogs along?

As for having to get neighbours’ permission to have a third dog…that’s just ridiculous.

  3. This sounds like the Wild Wild West, hunting down coyotes in parts of Huntly. Perhaps those people at whom he is directing his rifle should also play their part by keeping their wild dogs out of the towns. Ordinary people taking their pooches for a morning brunch are in a different category. Humans anywhere in New Zealand should feel sure they are not going to be in the middle of a gunfight on the Non Ok Corral around their areas.

  4. What is next cats people anything that doesn’t meet with his approval. Remember you are elected to represent the people of the waikato. What gives you the right to decide which dogs live and those who are to be executed

  5. What a terrible example to the community. Complete lack of respect for the law and animals who are other peoples loved oned.

  6. Well he is the worst mayor you could ever want. He does nothing for Huntly even though he supposedly lives in the area. He always looks unkempt and scruffy.
But for some reason he gets re elected every time. Maybe this will be the nail in the coffin so to speak. Time for a new Mayor and new Councillors.

  7. I sometimes take my dog for a walk up Harris straight Is on our way home for a play at the dog run. I take this Threat seriously If my dog ends up being shot by you. I can’t even say it It would hope you at least lose your job.
